The Woodbridge Township Professional Firefighters Association, I.A.F.F. Local 290, would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Woodbridge Township Board of Fire Commissioners of Port Reading Fire District 2 and Fords Fire District 7. These two boards have agreed to permit their firefighters to work in pink t-shirts to show their support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Fire fighters get involved for many reasons, and often it’s because they have been personally affected by the disease. Fire fighters exposed to carcinogens and other chemicals while on the job are disproportionately diagnosed with breast cancer — just one of many cancers linked to the work fire fighters do. In the last three years, hundreds of I.A.F.F. affiliates in the United States have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars through the Passionately Pink program, with the donations shared equally between Susan G. Komen and the I.A.F.F. Charitable Foundation. Funds are used to help Komen support breast cancer research, screening and treatment programs and to help the I.A.F.F. Foundation support I.A.F.F. members and family members who are battling cancer. T-shirts were sold to the public during Fire Prevention Open House in Fords. T-shirts are available for $15 each. If you are interested in purchasing a t-shirt, please email: I.A.F.F. Local 290. All proceeds will benefit the Passionately Pink program.
